How much does it cost to study abroad?

Tuition is only half the picture. Here’s how to budget for living costs, visas, insurance and flights.

Tuition varies more by country than by course

Public universities in Germany and France charge little or no tuition, while the UK, USA, Canada and Australia typically range from ₹15 lakh to ₹45 lakh a year. Business and medicine usually cost more than arts and science.

Living costs are set by the city

London, Sydney, Boston and Singapore sit at the top end. Many visas also require you to show a fixed amount of living funds — for example, Germany’s blocked account.

Don’t forget the one-off costs

Visa fees, health surcharges or insurance, flights, deposits and your first month’s rent all land before you start. Budget for them early so they don’t eat into your tuition money.
